As reported in our Sustainability Policy, we consider protecting the natural environment and fighting climate change an important part of our responsibilities.
In fact, we are fully aware that evolution of the environmental and climate situation will influence the business development process increasingly more, which must address growing risks but also great opportunities.
At Mediobanca, we are committed to both reducing our indirect environmental impact and to identifying the tools for managing the direct impacts responsibly.
With reference to indirect impacts, in 2021 we became a member of the Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA), the initiative promoted by the United Nations with the objective of accelerating the sustainable transition of the international banking sector.
In April 2022 we became supporters of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), committing to publish transparent disclosures on climate change-related risks and opportunities..
With reference to direct impacts, in addition to achieving climate neutrality once again in 2021, by cancelling our remaining greenhouse gas emissions, equal to 3,437 tons of CO2 in FY 2020-21, we manage:
- the optimisation and reduction of our energy consumption and, consequently, our CO2 emissions;
- the reduction of the consumption of water and paper and improvement of waste management.
For each commitment assumed, we have identified specific targets integrated in 2019-2023 Strategic Plan and, on an annual basis, we monitor and report on their progress.
